Welcome aboard our smart meter journey. We know there have been a lot of you coming aboard from other suppliers and we wanted to make your energy life just that much simpler. Our Energy Specialists have created a guide on the process of your smart meter journey.
The switch
The switch should all happen within 90 days for the meter to receive the new information and to set up the correct details, this will include your tariff and cost
Why does it take 90 days?
The main reason the switch takes 90 days is because of the enrollment and adoption into the Data Communications Company (DCC). The DCC is a smart meter communications infrastructure that links energy suppliers to smart meters via a secure wireless network.
We can then access your Smart Metering’s Technical Specifications (SMETS1) which is currently being moved to the secure DCC network.
This migration involves a remote firmware update being sent directly to the meter. So you don't need to do anything and you don't need a technician either.
Once all this is over your meter will regain all of its smart functionality and begin sending meter readings automatically to us once again and the switch will be complete!
If you don't have a smart meter yet.
Of course all the above is if you originally have a smart meter installed. However, we are aware that not everyone has a smart meter. Some believe it can be a bit confusing. This is why we have created a yay or nay list to see if it's for you!
